Nord Arin supports young woodworking specialists

Nord Arin furniture is defined by high-quality minimalist design and by contemporary elegance with an innovative touch. Implicitly, our organisational culture nurtures innovation, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Therefore, our company seeks to attract young specialists with an open mind and a learning oriented attitude, who can come up with a fresh perspective and creative solutions.

In the Nord Arin factory, fresh college or university graduates work shoulder to shoulder with highly experienced engineers and woodworking specialists who have been part of the team for 10, 20 or even 25 years. Precisely this mix of people of different ages and different educational backgrounds, who have wood as a common language, is one of our company’s core strengths.

Educational and academic partnerships

As part of our educational and recruitment strategy, we have been supporting young designers, engineers and woodworking specialists for many years, through solid partnerships with several educational institutions. At a local level, Nord Arin is traditionally partnered with two secondary schools from the surrounding community and with `Carol I` Highschool from Bicaz, that includes a ”Universal Carpenter” specialization.

At national level, our company collaborates closely with two top universities from Iași and Brașov, for both technology transfer and recruitment purposes. Within our partnerships with the The Faculty of Furniture Design and Wood Engineering (Brașov) and The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (Iași), we organize yearly factory visits for students interested in pursuing a career in a premium furniture manufacturing company. In addition, we advise and guide talented students throughout the production process of prototypes meant for design competitions and we sponsor trips to international fairs for top students from these faculties.

Among other events dedicated to students, Nord Arin sponsors in 2022, for the second year in a row, “Mechanics Has Got Talent” Contest, taking place on March 10, 2022, at the Faculty of Mechanics from Iași. The event is organized by the Association of Graduates of the Faculty of Mechanics.

Educational project `Amateurs of today, craftsmen of tomorrow`

During March 7-11, Nord Arin took part in the educational project "Amateurs of today, craftsmen of tomorrow", organised and hosted by the `Carol I` Highschool from Bicaz. This series of events including round tables, workshops and factory visits was meant as a meeting platform between students enrolled in a woodworking specialization and successful companies in the woodworking industry from Neamt county.

Our representatives met with students for presentations and Q&A sessions, in order to provide vocational guidance and help them learn about industry facts, real work environment and career opportunities. Live talks with our factory colleagues who share from their own experience and answer students’ questions are a valuable tool for the young woodworking enthusiasts, as they can make informed decisions regarding the production sector they could specialize in.

Ten students from `Carol I` Highschool are already enrolled in the dual education class at Nord Arin and other students are also welcome to join us for apprenticeships. The dual education system combines apprenticeships and vocational education, based on a partnership between the private sector, the educational unit and the administrative-territorial unit, with a view to ensure practical training for highschool students in a real working environment, over a three-year period. These programs allow students to apply theoretical knowledge, learn from experienced woodworking specialists and get familiar with our factory sectors. After graduation, students can apply for a job that perfectly matches their abilities and passions and are offered a long-term career plan.

At the moment, besides the dual education class, 24 students are also enrolled in apprenticeships in various factory sectors at Nord Arin.

Partner of National Contest of Furniture Design

As a company constantly investing in design research and design innovation, Nord Arin supports yearly events and competitions dedicated to young furniture designers and future woodworking specialists. This year, we are again partner of the National Contest of Furniture Design, organised by Romanian Furniture Manufacturers Association, that will take place between March 1st and September 25th.

Young designers (college or university students) across the country can submit their designs and follow a two-step selection process – Creation and Prototype. Through this competition, young designers can gain not only valuable experience, but also public appreciation and visibility among Romanian furniture industry leaders, as finalist furniture designs will be exhibited within BIFE-SIM International Furniture, Equipment and Accessories Fair taking place in Bucharest during September 22– 25.
