From Milan, with love. Highlights of Salone del Mobile 2022

For the Nord Arin team, being back at Salone del Mobile after a three-year break was like a breath of fresh air. We truly missed the energy and the hustle and bustle of the fair, the feeling you get when you talk live to customers and receive real-time feedback. It was a long-anticipated anniversary edition of Il Salone, celebrating 60 years of this landmark design event, and the effervescent atmosphere of the fair was exactly what we needed to reconnect with the global community and charge ourselves with creativity.

We made the most out of the six days of the fair, by meeting with traditional partners, creating new connections, sharing our work with design lovers, meeting many talented designers and architects, and taking the pulse of global furniture design. We took joy in every conversation, in every encounter and in every positive feedback, especially since our design direction towards minimalism and sustainability got validated time again.

”This edition of Salone del Mobile was a very welcome change of scenery. Meetings with our clients and business partners took place in a different context from what we had in the last three years, and it’s important they were able to analyze our latest furniture concepts firsthand”, said Viorel Cretu, CEO Nord Arin.

Meetings with our clients and business partners took place in a different context from what we had in the last three years, and it’s important they were able to analyze our latest furniture concepts firsthand”, said Viorel Cretu, CEO Nord Arin. „We’ve established some important connections with new potential clients, and we are confident that some of them have great premises to develop into long-term partnerships.”

We participated at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2022 with a selection of premium furniture pieces, built of sustainable oak and painted in an exclusive selection of water-based finishes. Drift Collection, RAM dining table & bench, Bistrita console and dining table, Beams HomeBar and Wing dining table were exhibited under the concept “Heritage. Green. Design”, in a booth designed in the spirit of sustainability.

RAM Dining Table

On RAM dining table, horns of the ram are revealed through a subtle chromatic contrast and a fine incision on opposite corners of the tabletop.

A universal symbol, with deep meanings, translated into the dining area of contemporary homes around the world.

The “Heritage” area included pieces of furniture inspired by geographical landmarks in Neamț County and from our rich cultural heritage. RAM dining set is the result of a technology transfer project between Nord Arin and the Faculty of Furniture Design and Wood Engineering, Transilvania University of Brașov, aiming to integrate symbols found on heritage textile objects into contemporary wooden furniture. RAM dining table and bench display the horns of the ram subtly carved into wood, through a subtle incision that encourages visual discovery. Horns of the ram were found both on the vessels belonging to the Cucuteni Civilization, with an estimated age of over 6000 years, and on the Romanian blouse, which has gained lots of popularity in recent years and is celebrated worldwide through the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, on June 24th.

In the "Sustainability" area, we launched Drift - a collection strongly inspired by reclaimed wood. Drift replicates the hues and texture of wood naturally carved by water, wind, and time and seeks to explore new ways in which the so-called driftwood can be repurposed through contemporary, minimalist furniture. Drift Collection provides a personal tactile and visual experience, through its unique color and texture.

Drift is a collection strongly inspired by the uniqueness of reclaimed wood.

Every product launched at Salone del Mobile 2022 follows a minimalist design line, however, the "Design" area gravitated around Wing dining table, a statement piece whose organic silhouette is inspired by the aerodynamic shape of luxury aircrafts. Wing was displayed in Eco Ebony, a beautiful soft-touch, dark matte finish, meant to add depth and intensify the play of volumes that defines this furniture piece.

A meeting point of contrasts between the futuristic shape of luxury aircrafts and the warm tone and texture of natural materials, Wing is an imposing table, crafted of sustainably sourced Romanian wood.

”People love organic design because curved lines create a feeling of protection and comfort, contributing to a cozy and harmonious space, that encourages you to slow down and relax”, says Voicu-Stefan Cretu, Head of Design at Nord Arin. ”This idea was again validated at Salone del Mobile, as the most appreciated piece from the Nord Arin booth was Wing, a rectangular dining table, defined by fluid lines and curved surfaces.”

We feel recharged with creative energy and we’re looking forward to the next edition of Il Salone. Next year in April, we’ll be back at Rho-Fiera, ready to share and write new design stories, rooted in beautiful Romania.
